About “Protect me to protect you”
In the period 23.05 – 27.05.2023, the National Association of Volunteers in the Republic of Bulgaria implemented a youth exchange in the city of Velingrad on the theme “Protect Me To Protect You” within the framework of the implementation of project No. 2022-1-BG01-KA152-YOU-000065550 “PROTECT ME TO PROTECT YOU”, financed under the Erasmus+ program.
In the framework of the youth exchange, a number of activities aimed at achieving the goals set by the project were included, namely increasing the knowledge and skills of young people for the protection of the environment; promoting responsible behavior in relation to the environment among young people; promoting diversity, cultural dialogue and tolerance between young people from different countries through sharing, learning and working together in an international team and working on a problem common to all humanity.
The project program was as follows:
- DAY 1 – The first day was dedicated to getting to know the participants, bringing them together and turning them into a team. Exchange rules were established, proposed by the participants themselves. Each one of them wrote and shared their expectations, fears and contribution. The chairman of NADRB presented the organization, its main goals and activities, showing photos from various actions. The participants were extremely impressed by the activities of the organization and what the volunteers are doing, especially their mission to Turkey after the earthquakes. It was also an introduction to the project of the project with the conduct of the World Cafe “, which is why we are also in the case of a” good environment “, where every artist was prompted quickly to ate one Okolna among.
- DAY 2 – Within the framework of this day, two workshops “The reality in each country”, where the participants were divided into national teams and presented the policies for environmental protection in their country. The Workshop “Eco-problems” was also realized, where each team presented the problems faced by the flora, fauna, water, resources. After that is, the participants took part in the ECO CITY GAME, where they were given various eco tasks in the city of Velingrad, including cleaning public places.In the evening, a documentary related to environmental protection as a tool for disaster prevention was screened.
- DAY 3 – The program started with a thematic visit to the local fire station. The participants got acquainted with the ways of dealing with disasters, in particular with forest fires. A practical fire-fighting demonstration was also held, in which the young people themselves took part. Each one of them works with a hose and a fire extinguisher. After that, some of the young people managed to participate in the activity “Unfolding and retracting a hose line”. The visit went great and most of them were extremely impressed. After that, the program continued with a guest speaker from Greenpeace, who presented to the participants the policies for the protection of the environment in Europe and at the world level, introduced them to various good practices and trends. After that, together with the guest speaker, the Workshop “Without protection – there is a disaster” was held, where the participants had to work on dealing with various disaster crises – earthquakes, fires, floods, etc.
- DAY 4 – The day was dedicated to recycling and cleaning. With the first “Treasure Hunter” Workshop, the participants were introduced to the Reuse, recycle, reduce policy, after which they had to make various art installations from waste. After that, a large cleaning of a natural area in the vicinity of Velingrad was organized, during which more than 15 bags of garbage were collected.
- DAY 5 – At the beginning of the day, the participants held a DO and DON’T workshop on environmental lifestyle, during which they developed thematic videos related to environmental protection. The videos were published on social networks – Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Youtube. The final part of the project was also held, aimed at validating what was learned and evaluating the project.
32 participants from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Greece and Portugal took part in the activity.
