ChoosE YoUrself: Decision-Making Tools for Young NEETs

Project’s Period: March 2025 – August 2026

Supports young people aged 20–25 who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) in Italy, Spain and Romania to build self-confidence, explore what gives them meaning and make informed life and career choices, through a didactic concept for youth workers, a practical decision-making toolkit, local workshops, online mentoring and a podcast.

Objectives of the project

Understand the reality of young NEETs

Develop a shared understanding, across Italy, Spain and Romania, of the barriers, risk factors and psychological profiles of young people aged 20–25 who are not in education, employment or training, and of how these shape the way they make decisions.

Equip young NEETs with practical decision-making tools

Translate research on decision-making, emotional intelligence and self-regulation into ready-to-use activities that help young people recognise cognitive traps, manage uncertainty and take small, concrete steps forward.

Strengthen the competences of youth workers

Offer youth workers and educators a didactic concept and a modular toolkit, with workshop formats and facilitation guidelines, that they can adapt to their local context.

Reach young people in their communities

Test the tools directly with young NEETs through local workshops, an online mentoring programme and a podcast, and share the results with young people and stakeholders.

The Activities

Kick-off Meeting in Cambrils, Spain 🇪🇸

Between 2–5 May 2025, the partners met in Cambrils, Spain, hosted by Jóvenes de Cambrils para el Mundo, for the official start of the project. LUMiA ETS (Italy), Jóvenes de Cambrils para el Mundo (Spain) and Asociația Tinerii 3D (Romania) worked together on the implementation plan, clarified roles and planned the next steps, including the training activity in Italy and the design of the Decision-Making Toolkit.

Training Course in Rimini, Italy 🇮🇹

Between 7–13 December 2025, Rimini hosted the international Training Course of the project, organised by LUMiA ETS. 21 participants from Italy, Spain and Romania – six young NEETs aged 20–25 from each country, together with youth workers from the partner organisations – spent five training days testing and refining the Decision-Making Toolkit through non-formal education, peer-to-peer learning and interactive methods. They explored the psychological, emotional and cognitive sides of decision-making, worked with tools such as the Ikigai method, goal-setting, option analysis and stress management, and built an international peer-support network.

Local Workshop in Șimnicu de Sus, Romania 🇷🇴

On 7 March 2026, Asociația Tinerii 3D, in partnership with Fundația Adina, organised a local workshop in Șimnicu de Sus for 17 young people, around 12 of them NEETs. Through non-formal activities drawn from the project’s tools, participants worked on self-knowledge and on the decisions they face about their personal and professional future.

Online Mentoring for Young NEETs

In May 2026, Tinerii 3D launched a free online mentoring programme for young NEETs, offering one-to-one support to help them clarify their goals, explore options and plan their next steps.

Dissemination at the Volunteering Festival, Craiova 🇷🇴

On 10 August 2026, during the 9th edition of the Volunteering Festival in William Shakespeare Square, Craiova, Tinerii 3D presented the project results at its information stand, with a short guide drawn from the Decision-Making Toolkit and an Ikigai worksheet that visitors could complete on the spot.

Project Results

The Didactic Concept is a methodological framework for youth workers: it explains who young NEETs are, how they experience indecision, fear of failure and uncertainty, and how non-formal education can support them. The Decision-Making Toolkit turns this framework into practical, ready-to-use activities – recognising cognitive biases, the Stop–Breathe–Choose technique, the simplified decision map, emotional intelligence and self-regulation exercises, and workshop formats such as “Discovering my Ikigai”.

Both results are available free of charge in English, Italian, Spanish and Romanian.

Bending the Street – the podcast

“Bending the Street” is the podcast created within ChoosE YoUrself: a space where young people, youth workers and professionals from Italy, Spain and Romania talk openly about real decision-making experiences – their stories, their doubts and the tools that helped them. Not about the “perfect job”, but about decisions as a process of getting to know yourself.
