Safe & Sound – Enhancing Youth Knowledge on Sexual Health and Diversity

As part of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Safe & Sound – Enhancing Youth Knowledge on Sexual Health and Diversity”, our consortium developed and implemented a cross-national questionnaire aimed at understanding how young people perceive sexual education in Romania, Spain, and Bulgaria.

The questionnaire gathered essential feedback from adolescents—including those living in rural areas or belonging to underrepresented communities—regarding:

  • their access to sexual education and reliable information
  • common taboos and cultural barriers
  • their level of comfort in discussing sexual health
  • their understanding of emotional well-being, consent, and relationships
  • their awareness and acceptance of diversity and LGBTQ+ topics

By amplifying the voices of young people, this tool played a crucial role in designing educational activities that truly respond to their experiences and needs.

National Questionnaires

The questionnaires were distributed online in all three partner countries. They remain accessible here:

Analysis of Results

After collecting and interpreting the responses, each partner country produced a comprehensive analysis outlining the main patterns, challenges, and priorities identified among local youth.

These analyses highlight important similarities between the three countries—such as young people’s need for clear, accessible sexual education—and also underline cultural differences that must be considered when creating educational materials.

Here are the full country-level analyses:

Why These Findings Matter

The insights we collected have been instrumental in shaping the educational workshops implemented during the project. They helped us:

  • identify knowledge gaps and misinformation affecting today’s youth
  • adapt our teaching tools to local cultural contexts
  • integrate emotional well-being, consent, and diversity as core components
  • design resources that speak directly to the concerns of teenagers

Most importantly, these findings ensure that future educational materials developed within Safe & Sound are relevant, inclusive, and youth-centered.

A Foundation for Sustainable Change

The cross-national questionnaire stands as a key element of the project’s methodology. It not only informed our activities but also contributes to a better understanding of how sexual education should evolve across Europe.

By giving young people space to express their realities and expectations, we are building the foundation for meaningful, long-lasting change—one that supports their health, autonomy, and well-being.

Your voice matters.
And through this project, it is shaping the future of sexual education.
